Pope Francis part II

Hi again,

Seemed like a quick week last Sunday since had to spend time to catch up after our long break.  So we’ll stay with the topic of the new Pope.  While we read from a transcript of his interview last week, this week it is how threatened some feel by his tone and words.

Here’s an article from Buzzfeed Politics, with some of the history of the political alliance between Roman Catholics and Christian evangelicals.

Some questions to consider:

How do you react when a religious leader (who in a sense represents you) says or does things that you disagree with?

Whether you are on the conservative side or progressive side, how can we bridge the gaps?

Here’s another article on a similar vein from the Washington Post with this poignant quote:

“He is calling every single one of us to love our neighbor as ourselves, which is a really hard thing to do,” she said. “We tend to have barriers up in society : Republican, Democrat, liberal, whatever. We don’t just sit down and say, ‘Why do you think this or that?’

See you Sunday at 9:30 in the Library.  Come and bring a friend!

John
