Young adults hunger for meaning beyond themselves…(?)

Happy new years!

I am excited to be back in action tomorrow…over the holidays, we were up in Michigan with Michele’s family and I came across a book, Pub Theology, written by a friend of a friend of Michele’s.  Got me thinking and reading.  Here’s an except from the author’s blog – read as much as you’d like, but at least a couple of the sections.  This touches on something we talked about in the fall – what draws young people to (conservative) Christian Churches?

See what you think.

Here’s a teaser…In fact, many of these conservative churches supposedly teaching about Jesus ‘in all authenticity,’ often fail to communicate the Jesus who taught us to love our neighbor as ourselves, to love our enemies, to practice reconciliation at all costs, to respond to violence with forgiveness.  These same churches consistently favor a militaristic approach to foreign policy, which looks like anything but ‘the authentic Jesus’, they often favor social policies that marginalize the poorest and weakest in our society, and one could go on.

What do YOU find authentic when it comes to your spiritual community?

Bring a friend to the library – 9:30…and don’t forget to bring pasta and come for breakfast at 9 am in the Great Hall.  All welcome!
